Guest Post: Bakery Bear - Free Crochet / Amigurumi Pattern By Little Bitty Critter

Hi everyone! Julie here. I am so excited to bring you Heart & Sew's first ever guest post and pattern! Today I'll be handing over the reins to the talented Capri from Little Bitty Critter who specialises in designing very tiny amigurumi. She has kindly designed this adorable little Bakery Bear exclusively for Heart & Sew readers to make, so if you do use her pattern please check out her Etsy shop where she sells her own patterns and ready made finished toys. Not only is she super talented but she's also a super sweet person and I've had a lovely time chatting and working with her. So without further ado, take it away Capri!

Would you like to guest post on Heart & Sew? Be sure to get in touch!

Hello Heart & Sew readers! My name is Capri, I'm 21 years old and currently living in Seattle, Washington. I'm an avid fanatic of all things crafty and cute and the designer behind Little Bitty Critter. My love of yarn projects started with my mother teaching me to knit when I was 11 years old, and from there I developed a knack for crochet as well! I originally started out on Etsy selling the dolls and critters I learned to make (after graduating from washcloths and bookmarks haha!), and from there gradually got into pattern design. I love toying with new concepts and creating amigurumi renditions of some of my favourite fictional characters, as well as various original designs of my own. When I'm not tangled up in yards of yarn, you can spot me baking too many cookies, sketching and arting, or binge watching Netflix with my bunny Rupert! I hope you enjoy making my little Bakery Bear. Happy creating to all!

♥

I used Lily Sugar n' Cream worsted/aran weight yarn to make my Bakery Bear. I have included the specific shade names in brackets below.

  • 90-100 yards of Pink Yarn (Tea Rose)
  • 30-35 yards of Blue Yarn (Robin's Egg)
  • 2-3 yards of White Yarn (White)
  • 1 yard of Black Yarn (Black)
  • Size 4mm (G) Crochet Hook
  • Polyester Toy Stuffing
  • Yarn Needle
  • Size 18mm Black Safety Eyes
  • Scissors
  • Row Counter
  • Stitch Marker

Psst! Hold down CTRL and P to print the pattern!

Difficulty: Beginner Friendly

Must know how to work in the round, increase, invisible decrease, chain & change colours.

This pattern uses the following U.S stitches & abbreviations:
  • Ch = Chain
  • Sc = Single crochet
  • Sc2tog = Single crochet 2 stitches together (decrease)
  • Dc = Double crochet
  • Dc2tog = double crochet 2 stitches together (decrease)
  • Sk = Skip
  • St = Stitch

Do not join rounds, work in a continuous spiral unless stated otherwise. It is a good idea to mark the end of each round with a stitch marker.

Head:

Taking your G crochet hook, (using PINK)

Round 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook,
Round 2: 2 sc in each ch, (12)
Round 3: [Sc 1, 2 sc in next ch] to end, (18)
Round 4: [Sc 2, 2 sc in next ch] to end, (24)
Round 5: [Sc 3, 2 sc in next ch] to end, (30)
Round 6: [Sc 4, 2 sc in next ch] to end, (36)
Round 7: [Sc 5, 2 sc in next ch] to end, (42)
Round 8: [Sc 6, 2 sc in next ch] to end, (48)
Rounds 9 – 13: Sc in each ch,
Round 14: [Sc 6, sc2tog] to end, (42)
Round 15: [Sc 5, sc2tog] to end, (36)
Round 16: [Sc 4, sc2tog] to end, (30)
Round 17: [Sc 3, sc2tog] to end, (24)

Take the safety eyes, and place them approx. 1 inch from up from where you are
working, about 2 inches apart. Begin stuffing the head.

Round 18: [Sc 2, sc2tog] to end, (18)
Round 19: [Sc 1, sc2tog] to end, (12)

Finish stuffing head at this point.

Round 20: [Sk 1 ch, sc in next ch] to end, (6)

Fasten off, leaving a 12” tail to sew with. Set head aside

Body:

Taking your G crochet hook, (using PINK)

Round 1: Ch 2, 7 sc in second ch from hook,
Round 2: 2 sc in each ch to end of round, (14)
Round 3: [Sc, 2 sc in next ch] to end, (21)
Round 4: [Sc 2, 2 sc in next ch] to end, (28)
Rounds 5 – 8: Sc in each ch,
Round 9: [Sc 2, sc2tog] to end, (21)
Round 10: [Sc, sc2tog] to end, (14)

Fasten off and close up the hole by threading the tapestry needle and weaving it around
the hole, then pulling until the hole is shut (like a drawstring bag). You will now take the
head and sew evenly on top of the body.

Feet: (Make 2)

Taking your G crochet hook, (starting with BLUE)

Round 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook (6)
Round 2: 2 sc in each ch to end of round, (12)
Round 3: [Sc, 2 sc in next ch] to end, (18)
Rounds 4 - 6: (after finishing round 4, change to PINK) Sc in each ch,
Begin stuffing legs,
Round 7: [Sc, sc2tog] to end, (12)
Round 8: [Sk 1 ch, sc in next ch] to end, (6)
Round 9: Sc in each ch,

Finish stuffing,

Fasten off, leaving an 8” tail for each leg. Sew one leg on the lower part of the body,
tying a knot when finished. Repeat these steps for the other leg piece, spacing them
about 1.5” apart.

Arms: (Make 2 )

Taking your G crochet hook

Round 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook, (6)
Round 2: [Sc, 2 sc in next ch] to end, (9)
Round 3: Sc round,
Round 4: [Sc, sc2tog] to end (6)

Stuff arm.

Rounds 5 - 7: Sc in each ch,

Fasten off, leaving an 8” tail for sewing. Thread your needle and sew each arm on either
upper side of the body. Space the arms about 1.5” away from the legs. Once sewn, tie a
secure knot and cut any remaining tail.

Ears: (Make 2)

Outer ears:

Taking your G crochet hook, (using PINK)

Round 1: Ch 2, 7 sc in second ch from hook,
Round 2: Ch 2, [dc ch, 2 dc in next ch] 6 times, (12)
Fasten off, leaving an 8” tail. Once both pieces are made set them aside.

Inner ears:

Taking your G crochet hook, (using BLUE)

Round 1: Ch 3, 7 dc in third ch from hook,
Fasten off, leaving an 8” tail. Taking your outer ear piece, fit your inner ear piece on top
with the right side of the pieces facing you. Thread your needle with the blue tail sew it
in place on the outer ear. Once finished, position your ear piece on top of the head just
above one of the eyes. Once sewn, tie a secure knot and cut any remaining tail. Repeat
these steps for the other ear as well.

Muzzle:

Taking your G crochet hook, (using BLUE)

Round 1: Ch 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook,
Round 2: 2 sc in each ch to end of round, (12)
Round 3: Sc round,

Fasten off, leaving an 8” tail for sewing. Do not sew on head yet.

Nose:

Using a 6” piece of black yarn, tie a secure knot at one end and thread the other end
through your needle. Bringing your needle through the backside of the muzzle, sew two
horizontal lines on the upper part of the muzzle. From here, sew a line starting from the
center of your first lines going down, so it looks like a small 't' shape on the front of the
muzzle. Once finished, bring the tail to the backside of the muzzle and tie a secure knot.
Add a little stuffing to the muzzle. Thread your muzzle piece and sew it between the
eyes, on the lower part of the head. Once sewn in place, tie a knot and cut any remaining
tail.

Apron:

Taking your G crochet hook, (using WHITE)

Round 1: Ch 7, turn, sk first ch, sc in next 6 chs, turn, (6)
Rounds 2 - 3: Ch 1, sc 6 chs, turn,
Still fastened on, ch 20,

Fasten off, leaving an 8” tail. Position the apron against the bear's body, between each
leg, wrapping the chain around the back of its neck. Bring the end of the chain to the
opposite corner of the apron and sew it in place. To secure it further, sew the top edge
of the apron to the body and tie a knot when finished, cutting any remaining tail.

Hat:

Taking your G crochet hook (using WHITE),

Round 1: Ch 2, 8 sc in second ch from hook,
Round 2: 2 sc in each ch, (16)
Round 3: Ch 1, 2 dc in each ch, (32)
Rounds 4 - 6: Dc in each ch,
Round 7: Dc2tog to end of round, (16)
Round 8: Sc in back loops only of each ch,
Rounds 9 – 10: Sc in each ch,

Fasten off, leaving a 12” tail. No stuffing is needed for the hat. Position the hat on top
of the head, between either side of the ears and sew around the bottom edge to the head
until you've sewn all the way around. Once finished, tie a knot and cut any remaining
tail.

And there you have it, your own little Bakery Bear! Wouldn't he look nice in your kitchen? If you enjoyed this pattern be sure to check out Capri's Etsy shop Little Bitty Critter for more of her unique amigurumi patterns.
