Milkshakes, Geckos & Feeling Like a Designer...

It's been a week since I released my first amigurumi pattern (Cheeky Little Monkey) here on my blog and on Ravelry. I really wasn't quite sure what to expect but I've had such a positive response from the online crochet community. One Raveler kindly reported a minor typing error to me which was quickly amended, but other than that it's been smooth sailing so far. A few of my lovely Instagram friends even starting making him, which was massively exciting for me as an aspiring designer! In fact, the day after I posted my monkey pattern I was out for dinner at Five Guys (the BEST burger place in the UK) with my boyfriend Tom and our friend Lewis. We were in the middle of discussing wall paper options for Lewis' future game room and whether his pet gecko Paolo really was a Paolo and not a Paula, when my phone buzzed. My eyes widened and I jumped up shouting "SOMEONE'S MAKING MY MONKEY!" nearly spilling my strawberry milkshake all down me in the process. It was a great moment for me, someone was using my pattern! I felt like a designer for the first time ever and it was a wonderful feeling...

The first person to ever make a Heart & Sew amigurumi was a lovely lady named Sandra. She gave me some really positive feedback and even got the amigurumi bug herself, as she went on to make an adorable little bunny too! Check out her Instagram page if you are a crocheter, she posts lots of fabulous photos of her work. If anyone else has made a monkey, please do send me your photos. It would truly make my day to see them!

In other news, I've had quite a few people contacting me about my mouse pattern. For those of you who don't follow me on Instagram, the first amigurumi I ever designed was a little white ballerina mouse. It generated quite a lot of interest on social media and I promised to post the pattern for free here on my blog. Unfortunately as it was the first time I'd ever designed my own amigurumi, some parts of the pattern are not written down properly and will need to be rewritten. I also have a bad habit of crocheting in poor lighting, so parts of the original mouse are in cream and some are in white! Rookie mistake! Not so noticeable in the original photograph, but very noticeable when trying to take decent, professional photos. The white parts will need to be frogged and redone in cream before I can take proper photographs to go along with the pattern. The mouse pattern will be fixed and posted as soon as possible, but it will have to be put on hold for now - I have a rather exciting project to be getting on with starting next week, but more about that on my next update!

Thank you everyone for your continued support, you're all wonderful. Truly.

  1. I just found your blog through Crochet Addicts facebook page. My favorite thing to crochet is amigurumi, and I can't wait to try the cheeky little monkey...he is adorable!! Have a few projects that need to be completed first, but he is definitely on my "to do" list :)
